Life is movement, breathing and rhythm. Life grooves from the moment of our conception right up to our last breath. In Wutao we learn to gently master our breathing; we learn to be in tune with its rhythm.
We let our breath grow and our movement blossom, alternating between mastery of the movement and then letting go (‘lâcher-prise’). Wutao proposes a path that lets us bring to our conscience attention the liberating, pulsating, and breathing of all our living tissues through the undulating movement of our vertebral column.
The art of Wutao is a contemporary pathway to awakening our inner selves. Created by a French couple, Pol Charoy and Imanou Risselard, this bodily art form helps us to reconnect our body and soul, our intimate being.
We do this by being consciously mindful of the primordial movement of our vertebral column and the gentle and powerful liberation of our breath. The relaxing of our pelvic region helps us to unfold and restore this wave motion that lives in each of us. It helps us to be in the here and now, to anchor us and to render us more sensitive, more inspired and therefore more creative in our relationship towards our lives. It awakens our body and soul, it opens us up to ourselves and to the world.
Wutao is the essence of Pol Charoy and Imanou Risselard’s life experiences. From the martial arts arena (Pol Charoy was world champion in Kung Fu in the 80’s) to the gentle stretching of yoga (Imanou was a teacher for 20 years) both where breathing therapists in transpersonal therapy and re-birthing and both have had vast experiences in the performing arts (theatre of Jacques Lecoq ‘théatre du movement’ and in circus performances). They created Wutao building a bridge between ancient Taoist philosophy and modern occidental bio-energetic work.
Wutao’s 4 fundamental principles put the accent on:
- Undulating wave movements in the spinal column
- Global breathing
- Spiralling movements
- The sentiment (feelings within) of the movement
